O, Dale Miami: Poetry Workshops for Kids Who Like Art
Our 2018 calendar continues with an exciting and FREE to the public collaboration with Dale Kids and O, Miami! We’ll be joining forces with Mana Contemporary Miami, located in the historic 777 Mall and the sail savvy folks overs at Shake a Leg to produce a series of poetry and art workshops - just for kids.
Each workshop will feature a different approach to writing poetry led by O, Miami’s own Jeff Sanford. Attendees will take their poems and turn them into art objects they can hold in their hands and share with their pals and parents.

April 7th 10:30 am to noon (Shake a Leg) Poem to my favorite toy, pet or ME!
In this workshop participants learn to build a poem dedicated to their all-time favorite toy, pet or their own best friend, themselves. Bringing stuffed animals, toys or pictures of their love ones are encouraged for inspiration. All children will bring home a poem, illustration and polaroid dedicated to their beloved.
April 14th 10:30 am to noon (Shake a Leg)Poetry Patches and Pins
In this workshop, we’ll teach you how to make your very own poetry patches and pin to add to backpacks, totes, or your own jean jacket. You’ll learn basic embroidery stitches as well as making a cute poem. Leave proud with your new embroidery skills.
April 21st 1pm to 2pm (777 Mall at Dale headquarters)Poetry Zine making
Join a drop-in art class exploring the creative techniques behind making zines , led by Steve Saiz and other artists from Dale Zine community. No previous experience is needed in poem and/or zine making to participate.
Materials will be provided, but participants should bring any and all pre-existing drawings, photographs, collage materials, etc. that they want to include in their zines.
April 28th 10:30 am to noon (Shake a Leg)Poetry Banners and Flags
Ever made a poem you were so proud of you wanted to display it big and loud? In this workshop, you can bring past poems or make new ones and learn to make your own felt banner and flag. Display it in your home and feel rewarded for being such a great poet.
